VisitGuernsey’s brochure has achieved national recognition – a silver commendation – in the prestigious 2009 Travel Marketing Awards held in London on Monday 16 March. The awards represent excellence in travel marketing both for the travel trade and visitor destinations. The island’s brochure (beaten to the number one spot by Virgin Holidays Worldwide brochure) can be requested for further information/as a tool for trade partners to help sell the destination.

Chris Elliott, Director of Marketing & Tourism at VisitGuernsey commented, “This goes to show that the judges felt our marketing is right up there with the best in the UK travel industry”.

Increased interest in Guernsey is reflected in the Channel Islands being Britain’s holiday destination of choice in February, according to Expedia.co.uk’s new monthly ‘Travel Hotspots Barometer’.

The barometer measures changing holiday choices during the credit crunch and this result – a 101% year-on-year increase – confirms that price-savvy Brits are looking for alternative close-to-home destinations. The island’s use of the sterling currency also represents a distinct advantage in the present climate.
