Re-introduced trade workshop a ‘significant success’

15. January 2010

Representatives from more than 30 operators from the UK and Europe travelled to Guernsey in May to take part in the island’s first Trade Workshop for six years.

The three-day event included a full day business session, which focused on a series of pre-arranged business appointments with local accommodation providers, and a civic reception at the 13th-century Castle Cornet in St Peter Port.

Guests included traditional tour operators, travel agents, online travel portals, group travel organisers and coach operators, who met with 55 Guernsey hoteliers and other accommodation providers during the business session.  The operators also met representatives from a wide range of visitor attractions in Guernsey and sister islands Herm and Sark.

Special permission was granted for an 8pm firing of Castle Cornet’s cannon during the civic reception  -  this usually takes place at noon only  -  while the operators also enjoyed a day of product familiarisation touring around Guernsey.

“The past six years have seen huge improvements in Guernsey’s accommodation stock, as well as increasing sophistication in our dining scene and range of attractions,” said Guernsey’s Director of Marketing and Tourism Chris Elliott.

“The time was right to re-introduce the Guernsey Trade Workshop, not only to develop new business relationships but also to help our long-established operator partners enhance their existing programmes.  Feedback has been very positive and we can already count the event a significant success.”
