They say Guernsey’s cool, but maybe it’s hot!

15. November 2007

Cream teas aside, Guernsey really is the crème de la crème of islands.

Why? Because not content with being blessed with natural good looks – uncrowded, white sand beaches and romantic clifftop walks (perfect for working off lobster lunches and those famous cream teas) - the islands of Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Sark are currently enjoying rave reviews.

Two, top national newspapers have recently included the islands in ‘top 20’ lists: Herm island’s famous Shell Beach was included in ‘top 20 beaches in the world’ by a panel of well known travel writers and Sark is listed in a reader survey of ‘top 20 hidden tourist gems in Great Britain’.

High profile TV celebrities have also praised Guernsey in national publications including presenter Ben Fogle and GMTV’s Kate Garraway. Both visit frequently.

Guernsey is in Ben’s ‘top 20 islands’ out of the 800 that form the British Isles and he loves “watching the sunset over the fishing boats from the Rockmount pub with a pint” (Apr 07). Ben also writes about Guernsey in his book ‘Offshore’, which details his love of islands.

Kate rates the island as her “favourite area of coast. The Guernsey coastline takes some beating, having everything from rugged cliffs and sandy shores and is always a few degrees warmer” (Mar 07).
