Retail Cruise Seminar

Retailers are invited to learn more about Guernsey’s cruise ship industry and how to make the most of the opportunities it presents, at a free seminar next week [Monday 27 March].

VisitGuernsey’s cruise ship team will give a presentation to retail businesses, to share key information about passenger profiles, trends, and itineraries, and to suggest ways that retailers can encourage cruise passengers to spend in their shops.

Deputy Jennifer Merrett, the Committee for Economic Development’s lead representative for retail and hospitality, said:
“The disembarkation of thousands of cruise ship passengers to our shores each year presents an excellent opportunity for retailers who wish to benefit from additional customers. Last year, more than 132,000 cruise ship passengers disembarked in Guernsey and spent a total of £4.2 million on the Island, including £3.55 million on retail, food, and drink. As we enter this year’s cruise season, we want to make sure retailers, not just in Town but across the Island, can take full advantage of the opportunities presented by this valuable market. We’re therefore inviting retailers to come and hear more about the cruise ship industry and perhaps learn, and share, some new ways of encouraging passengers into their shops”.

More than 230 invitations have been issued via the Committee’s database of retail businesses. Any retail business not already on the database is welcome to register to attend the seminar, and is encouraged to join the database (see below for details) to find out about future events and to receive updates on developments relevant to the retail sector.

The seminar runs from 07:30am to 09:30am on Monday 27 March 2017 and will be held in the Event Space at the Digital Greenhouse, Market Square. To register to attend this free event, and also to join the retail database, please contact: retail@gov.gg
