Events & Packages Announced for Guernsey Food Festival

The centrepiece of Guernsey’s gastronomic calendar returns for a third year in 2017. Running from 16 – 24 September, the festival celebrates the quality and variety of island food with producers and chefs combining forces to showcase the best of Guernsey, Alderney, Herm and Sark’s gastronomy.

Guernsey Cocktail Week (16 – 24 September)
Guernsey’s leading cocktail bars will be offering visitors a creative menu of cocktails, featuring on-island produced Haut Maison fruit liqueurs, Wheadon’s Gin and Blackdown Artisan Spirits. The cocktails will be available for just £5 each during the festival for those with a wristband, while there will be discounts on wines from Aperitif, La Maison de Champagne and Sommelier Wine Co. Guernsey Afternoon Tea Week (15 – 23 September)
Visitors to Guernsey can spoil themselves with the most quintessential of English customs during this year’s festival with an afternoon tea package featuring Guernsey butter, cream and milk. A number of restaurants and hotels across Guernsey will be offering a selection of afternoon tea offers, with some including champagne and cocktails as well as tasty sweet treats. Ross Gledhill of White Rock Brewery will also be running a Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea offering craft beers and whiskey cocktails to accompany the menu. Prices vary depending on the venue.

Live Food Shows (11am – 4pm, 16 – 17 September)
Throughout the festival, top chefs will prepare their favourite dishes live on stage in the main festival marquee on St Peter Port’s Crown Pier. Hosted by Calum Le Noury of Les Rocquettes Hotel, Andrew Chantrell of The Old Government House Hotel and Ross Gledhill of White Rock Brewery, the chefs will talk through the step-by-step preparation of their dishes before providing sample tasters. Big Guernsey Market (10am - 5pm, 16 – 17 September)
Crown Pier in St Peter Port will host over 40 food and drink stalls during the opening weekend of the festival, showcasing a range of Guernsey produce including locally distilled gin, fruit liqueur, artisan chilli sauces and preserves, goats cheese, oysters and crab. Free Entry.

Dinner with Andrej Prokes (7pm, 16 September)
The acclaimed Austrian chef Andrej Prokes will hold a fine dining experience during the festival at La Reuion Restaurant, pairing each course with wine from a variety of estates from across the world. Andrej is a former Executive Sous Chef at The Ritz London, The Fat Duck in Bray, and Chef de Partie at Ramsay’s Royal Hospital Road. Tickets cost £65 at

Guernsey v Jersey Food Challenge (7pm, 19 September)
There has long been a healthy rivalry between Guernsey and Jersey which is usually played out through a number of sporting contests. This year, the rivalry heads to the kitchen with four chefs from each island ‘battling’ it out to create a variety of dishes, which will be served blind to the audience who get to vote at the end of the dinner. The ‘Challenge’ takes place at the Duke of Richmond Hotel in St Peter Port. Tickets cost £55, including wine pairing at

White Rock Brewery (20 September) and Rocquette Cider (21 September) Open Days
Craft beer fans can join the White Rock Brewery team on 20 September to meet the brewers, Ross Gledhill and Matthew Lane, and learn about the brewing process, the ingredients included and also to sample their beers. The following day visitors can join the team at Rocquette Cider throughout the day to learn more about Guernsey’s only cider maker and their range of sparkling and still ciders. Owner James Meller will be on hand to talk guests through the cider making process with tours running every hour. Free Entry, with £5 tasting tickets available.

Children’s Food Festival (10am – 4pm, 16 – 17 September)
Little foodies will get the chance to learn more about local Guernsey produce and recipes at a series of workshops and fun cooking schools. Taking place on Crown Pier, The Creation Station Guernsey will run a number of interactive food events for families to take part in, where children can learn new skills and discover the fun of cooking, as well as healthy eating and nutrition. The festival is organised by Taste Guernsey, a non-profit organisation based on the island with the purpose of supporting local food and drink producers and restaurants through a number of events, benefiting both the local community and improving the experience for people visiting Guernsey.
