Funding for Events & Activities: 2020

As part of a trial initiative, the Committee for Economic Development is awarding a budget to Event and Activity providers to assist with putting on Events and Activities in 2020 that will appeal to our tourists.

The Events & Activity Budget is funded from the Marketing and Tourism (Committee for Economic Development) general revenue budget. Marketing and Tourism’s remit is to raise the awareness and promote Guernsey as a holiday and short break destination, into target markets and further afield. The aim is to generate interest and enquiries for trade and industry partners (i.e. leads for Tour Operators, Carrier partners, accommodation and attraction providers), to convert. The aim is supporting and facilitating the on-going incremental growth of the Visitor Economy.

The Events & Activities Budget will only be allocated where clear justification and evidence can be provided to substantiate the contribution the proposed events / activity will make to help Marketing and Tourism achieve its growth objectives.

Event Group Funding Criteria
The Committee is inviting applications from Organisation (Clubs, Charities, Foundations and Not for Profit Organisations) that are seeking financial assistance for Events and Activities that are aligned with the objectives set. Funding for Events and Activities for 2020 will be prioritised for events and activities that work to support and complement Marketing and Tourism’s core 2020 campaigns:
• Heritage (75th Anniversary of the Liberation) (Spring)
• Island Hopping (Summer),
• Cruise Liner and St Peter Port Experience (Summer)
• Walking and Indulgence (Walking Festival, Food Festival & Tennerfest) (Autumn)

And support the incremental growth of first time visitors. The potential to strengthen the island’s product offering and raise awareness and promotion to visitors, through various marketing initiatives, of key reasons to travel is highly desirable.  The three key metrics for measuring the strength and validity of the activity are:
• Will the activity improve the on island experience for visitor’s thereby increasing advocacy and loyalty?
• Will the activity raise awareness and prompt consideration of a visit to Guernsey by achieving significant off Island media coverage?
• Will the activity provide the primary reason to book a holiday and a visit to Guernsey and deliver incremental visitor numbers?

The value of the award cannot exceed 50% of the total cost of the activity / event being applied for.

This budget is aimed at Event & Activity Organisers who do not fit within the remit of the existing Event Groups that are funded by the Committee of Economic Development.  The Floral Foundation, The Sports Commission, The Arts Commission and Eat Drink and be Local. Events and Activities related to these categories should apply to these Event Groups for funding.

Application Process / Time frame
The 2020 application process is working to the following time frame.
• Week Commencing October 28th. Deadline for receiving funding applications
• Week Commencing November 11th. Applications review and Awards made
• Week Commencing November 25th. Events & Activity Organisers informed of Awards made.
• December 2019. Funding contracts issued
• Grants will be issued in January 2020.
• June 2020. Mid-year activity reports received
• November 2020. Final year reports received
